San Cristobal is divided up into neighborhoods or
barrios and each one has its own church and patron saint. I was told in the old days each neighborhood was also identified by their trade, whether they were bakers, merchants or tailors. San Cristobal is always celebrating with their
ferias which means there are processions, special masses, beautifully decorated churches, and lots of food and game stands. Each neighborhood takes pride and actively participates in their
feria. La Merced neighborhood recently celebrated with a festive procession (check out the dancers in their costumes) and a marimba concert outside the church. I was told the
Guadalupe feria in December is the biggest celebration and residents go all out so stay tuned!
